NUNO's bold “Rope” shawl emulates the decoration on ancient Jōmon earthenware, thought by archeologists to be among the oldest in the world. Whereas the prehistoric Japanese created their iconic impressions on the surface of pottery by pressing rope into the clay, NUNO weaves its design on Jacquard looms in soft, warm Merino wool—an ingenious way to turn a pattern from the past into a very modern fashion statement.
